This book focuses upon the work of an international group of artists who employ clay to attack, satirize and/or expose the perfidy of the human condition and its institutions. They use the devices of irony, parody, obscenity, erotica, introspection, violence, dream imagery, and the grotesque to convey their message. The book is divided into five areas—war/politics, gender issues, social/human condition, popular culture/consumerism, and the environment. The clay artist is seen as continuing the tradition of critical social commentary as an intrinsic element of cultural discourse
Art Deco Ceramics: The Noritake Years

This book explores the various Art Deco themes used by the Noritake Company during the ‘roaring twenties’ to lure young ladies into the retail china shops for the purpose of exposing them to traditional dinnerware. Seen in this light, many of the motifs are viewed as coded messages. The book highlights the diversity of expression found in these works and contends that, as a body, they represent the first extensive introduction of Art Deco objects in America
